FROM THE CHRISTIAN CHURCHES NETWORK OF LONDON

The Christian Church’s Network of London (CCNL) extend our deepest condolences to the Afzaal family and the entire Muslim community here in London as you grieve over the inexplicable pain caused to your family and friends.

The innocence of our peaceful city was shattered on June 6th when hatred overcame peace in the same spirit which caused our forefather Cain to slay his own brother, Abel as recorded in the book of Genesis chapter 4. The sad truth about history is that hatred has existed since creation and continues to be a scourge on our society at large.

As we imagine the shock and anguish of Adam and Eve when they learned of this hideous act of cruelty, as citizens of London, we share the same emotions. Human life is sacred. Our city has been a place of refuge for immigrants for decades and the richness you bring to our culture makes life for all of Londoners much better. So, to all who have chosen to make London their home we say you are welcome here and you belong. You belong because it is not just a place of refuge but because you complete us by bringing a dimension to our lives that makes life more beautiful for everyone.

The churches of London and the Christian community at large stand together in denouncing hatred and violence, and we support our Muslim community and all ethnic communities in our city with our prayers and love. “Let us love one another: for love is of God.” 1 John 4:7
