Following a diligent search, Compassion Canada’s board of directors has announced that Allison Alley will be the child development agency’s next President and CEO.

Allison has been the organization’s National Advocacy Manager for five years, launching a new department and leading initiatives to raise awareness of God’s heart for children living in poverty. She speaks regularly at events, churches and schools across the country and serves on the board of the Canadian Christian Relief and Development Association. Her work with Compassion has taken her to a dozen different countries across North and South America, Africa and Asia. Allison also spearheaded the creation of three multimedia series developed by Compassion Canada that invite families, youth groups, and churches to fulfill Jesus’ instruction to care for “the least of these.”

“I am honoured to serve this ministry, and humbled to join the long line of faithful leaders God has used to steward Compassion for over 50 years,” said Allison. “My desire is to see every Christian ignited with compassion and used by God to advance His mission, and every child afforded the opportunity to live a life free from poverty. I am excited to see how God will continue to use Compassion to transform even more lives; both around the world and here at home."

A family of advocates: Allison, her husband, Tommy, and their two children live a life together in service of speaking up for those in most need.
Outside of her work with Compassion, Allison and her husband have served at Southridge Community Church in St. Catharines, ON, for 15 years, and they have two beautiful young children. Allison holds a Master of Arts in Global Leadership with an emphasis in International Development and Urban Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary’s School of Intercultural Studies and is currently studying toward a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Business School. She will be the organization’s fourth president since its founding in 1963. Retiring president Barry Slauenwhite is staying on as CEO until Oct. 2019, working closely with Allison as she officially transitions into the role that month.

“I’m thankful that the Board has put so much care into the search process. Allison is an ideal choice to lead Compassion in the current context and well into the future,” said Barry.

Board Chair Ian Lawson said the decision to select Allison was unanimous. “The search process energized the board of directors as we got to know many outstanding candidates. Allison brings depth of character, unrelenting drive and a strong sense of calling to this important role. Her heart is for God’s people and the vulnerable children God calls us to love.”

Congratulations to both Barry and Allison from the team at
