No One Is an Island

By Mike Toth

Psalm 68:5-6: A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows,
Is God in His holy habitation.
 God makes a home for the lonely;
He leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

James 1:27: Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

For decades now Western society has kept up a relentless war against the most vulnerable people in our society. Abortion on demand, for virtually any reason, has been the vehicle of our children’s destruction for most of our lives, and the recent Liberal led measures legalizing euthanasia are threatening our ill and elderly. The London Area Right to Life Association is one group standing against this war, and on May 4 they celebrated their annual Gala at the Hellenic Centre.

While the night was festive with attendees enjoying each others company and the usual professional Hellenic Centre atmosphere, it was the unique guest speaker, or speakers, that really made the event.

Loralee Siemens is a child of adoption, and is a passionate advocate of adoption as a viable alternative to abortion. Her testimony of her childhood in a loving Christian home, meeting with her birth mother, and the effect of adoption on her life is truly compelling.

What was unique, though, is the fact that both her birth and adoptive mothers were at the event and gave their own testimonies. Loralee’s birth mother, Gail, gave a wrenching testimony of her decision to carry her daughter (birth name Faith Anne) to term and put her up for adoption rather than to abort the pregnancy as she was being pressured to. Loralee’s adoptive mother, Lois, spoke of her own painful road through an ectopic pregnancy and apparent barrenness. All three women gave testimony to the miracle of prayer and the faithfulness of God in the midst of their individual sorrows.

“There are 3,000 families in Canada waiting to adopt,” says Loralee. “How you enter this world does not determine your worth. No matter what your story is you are here for a reason. You are loved. God loves you.”

The London Area Right to Life Association’s aim is to uphold the dignity of human life from conception to natural death. They are located at 3-1193 Oxford Street. If you want further information feel free to email Bonnie at
