Matthew 25: 37-40: 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40 The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'

Sharyn was so sick, her family was at a loss as to what they should do to even care for her. Going to the beach seemed to be as good an idea as any, and her husband Tom helped her into the car.

Compounding the emotional and physical strain of her battles was the fact that she had been given a prophecy that she believed to be from God. This prophecy had to do with her being involved in a ministry that would have a hand in a great revival. As she sat in the car on the nearly deserted road to Ipperwash literally wasting away, she couldn't see how this important word would come to pass.

"I heard from the Lord as clearly as us sitting together talking right now," says Sharyn. "The Lord said to me, 'You will have a ministry, and it will be called Hardcore Ministries Canada.'" In faith she and Tom went to their pastor for prayer and a blessing, and printed their first ministry card. Hardcore Ministries Canada was born.

You would be excused if you thought that "Hardcore" was an odd name for a Christian ministry, but it is an apt description of the mission of the ministry. Coming out of a background of sex, drugs, rock and roll, and motorcycles has meant that Tom and Sharyn Sherman have gravitated to the fringe areas of society where few Christians dare to go. The ministry has reached out to the mentally ill, the incarcerated, the homeless, bikers, etc. Sharyn's own history led the ministry to encounter another taboo group, strippers.

"We decided we weren't going to sneak around, that we would ask permission of the people in charge of the bars and go in and bless and honor the women," says Sharyn. “We talked to the manager of one of the bars, and he asked what we were selling. We assured him we just wanted to bless the women, and he said to come back in a few days."

After those few days the same manager shrugged and said he guessed it would be okay for them to come into the bar. While the door was open to minister, other doors were closing.

"We lost a member of the ministry over going into the bar. We were told that Jesus wouldn't go into those places," says Sharyn. "The men of the ministry don't go into the bars with us. They stay in the van, pray, and keep and eye out for the ladies. We also have friends and other ministries covering us in prayer while we go out."

They made 23 gift bags for the women that first outreach, and had a special time with them. The next year they weren't allowed back into the same bar, but they weren't dismayed as they figured there would be difficulties. A unique encounter some time later shed light on why they weren't allowed back in.

"A year and a half later we were at our church and looked over and saw a girl I didn't know. The Lord said to me, 'That girl has the same testimony as you.’ A friend brought the girl over and the girl said, 'Do you remember me?' I told her no, and she told me that she had been stripping in that bar we went into. She said, 'I read that testimonial book that you gave me, I stopped stripping that night, and I got delivered from cocaine.'"

Hardcore Ministries will be going into two strip bars this Christmas season. Though collaboration has been slow, now there are a couple of churches and ministries that will be in support of this part of their outreach.

"People are dying and going to hell, they're dying in all ways, spiritually, emotionally, physically. We have been called to go into all the nations and preach the good news. If we don’t reach them, who will?"
