By Trish West

I am a glass half full kind of girl. I try to look at the positives despite any disappointment, frustration or discouragement I may be facing at that moment. Some days it is easy to see the glass as half full and move forward in a positive manner…

Raining…again? Imagine how beautiful the spring flowers will be once they all bloom.

Car is in the shop… having to walk will help work off those few extra winter pounds.

Kids fighting over the Lego…at least they are not sitting in front of the computer.

Then there are days when it's not as easy…

Over drawn in the bank account…will have to be creative with dinners till payday.

Fighting with a teen because they're skipping school…could be fighting because they're doing drugs.

Love one dies after a lengthy illness…they are no longer suffering and now at peace.

And then there are days - the glass is right empty…

The discovery of cancer in a child…

A family loses everything due to a house fire…

There is a bomb attack during the Boston marathon…

During times like this, I have to admit that I wonder how anyone could see anything but the glass as half empty. How easy it would be to get discouraged or frustrated …wondering why? How is it possible to see anything as positive when it feels like you have no other option but despair?

So I try not to focus on how full or how empty my glass is. Try not to keep tabs if something has drained my cup compared to those around me whose cup appears to be running over.

Instead I try to focus on the glass itself…how it does the same job regardless if there is anything in it. It reminds me how God is there to support me regardless if the situations in my life are running on empty or overflowing. Picturing him holding me in between his hands in the same way I would cradle a warm cup of coffee early in the morning.

*A side note* This morning while I was preparing to print out this article - I dropped the package of printing paper (all 500 sheets) right on my bare toes….the positive? The weather is nice enough to wear flip flops - saving the agony of trying to fit swollen sore toes into shoes.
