No One Is an Island

Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario has proudly reached the magical milestone of granting its 1,000th wish on January 9th, 2013!

The exciting honour of being our 1,000th wish child goes to five-year-old Andie Morrison of London, Ontario, who has Blackfan Diamond Anemia. Andie loves princesses! She tells us her hobbies include painting, singing, dancing and playing princess!

Thanks to the support of the Socks & Sandals Gala in Memory of Sarah Burrows, held in September 2012 to benefit Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario, Andie's wish has been fulfilled! The Walt Disney Company provided theme park tickets and other perks for Andie and her family as part of their overall relationship with Make-A-Wish. Andie and her family experienced her wish to go to Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida from January 2nd to 9th, 2013!

Andie's mom, Jennifer Morrison, exclaims, "We are just so unbelievably thankful for what (you) are doing for our family. Andie and (sister) Hannah talk about going to Disney on almost a daily basis…Andie was so excited (for her wish), telling everyone that after she turns five she gets to see Princess Aurora at the Magic Kingdom!"

"We are so grateful to our wish families, volunteers, donors, supporters and the community for their continued support and generosity, which has greatly assisted us in granting 1,000 amazing wishes since 1986." says Lori Quick, Chief Executive Officer of Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario.

About Make-A-Wish® Southwestern Ontario

Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. In its first 20 years, Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario granted 500 wishes. Now, just seven years later - as it begins its 27th year in 2013 - Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario will have granted an additional 500 wishes! Look to your family, friends, co-workers or neighbours. With 1,000 wishes granted in Southwestern Ontario since 1986, you may already know a child who has received a wish.

Currently, there are over 100 wishes in progress in the 16 Counties we serve throughout Southwestern Ontario. Each wish provides a child and their immediate family a carefree and joyful experience that is far from the inherent stress and anxiety of having a life-threatening medical condition. Our goal is to refocus attention on the positive by providing a unique, once-in-a-lifetime wish experience that a family might not otherwise have. Your support can help ensure more wish children are granted wishes than ever before.
