SUMMARY
US Marshal Madison James may not be sure who shot her three months ago, but she does know one thing--it's time to get back out into the field. When her partner, Jonas Quinn, receives a message that a federal warrant just came in on a man connected to a string of bank robberies, Madison jumps at the chance to get back to work. What she and Jonas find is a bank robbery in progress that's gone wrong--and things are about to get worse.
For these bank robbers, it's never been just about the money. It's about taking risks and adrenaline rushes, and getting caught is not part of the game. When the suspects escape, Madison and Jonas must hunt them down and bring them to justice before someone else--someone close to them--gets hurt . . . or worse.
From Seattle to the San Juan Islands, bestselling author Lisa Harris takes you on a nonstop chase where feelings are complicated and failure isn't an option.

Susan Snodgrass rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 5 out of 5 Stars
'Her goal was to eliminate the threat and make sure they didn't open themselves to an attack.'
I'd never read anything by Lisa Harris until I read her 2020 novel, The Escape, which was the first in her US Marshals series. It was great and I started looking forward to the next book in the series. And let me tell you, my wait was more than well worth it. I was absolutely captivated by this story. The Chase is quite aptly titled, too, by the way. The two main protagonists are in a highly intenseful chase for fugitives who always seem to be one step ahead of them. Jonas Quinn and Madison James are partners in the US Marshals service and are incredibly good at their jobs. This time they are up against some bad guys who have every contingency all planned out, though, so they must find a way to up their game in order to capture these folks and stop the madness. I was so intrigued all the way by not only the writer's skill at creating such a great story, but at how these two law enforcement officers went about their jobs, deciphering clues and chasing off on the next lead. It was so interesting!
'She was the one who went after the criminals. Not the other way around.'
At the same time that Jonas and Madison are chasing after these fugitives, Madison still hasn't solved a cold case from five years ago and one other devastating event. There is a spiritual thread here, a good, one, a smatter of romance, but the suspense is the king of this show! Hands down. It is high-octane suspense throughout! I could not stop reading, and I had chores to do. I couldn't wait to get back to the book when life interrupted. And there is another book in the series!
Harris has created two main characters that nearly leap off the pages and who fit their roles so well that it's like watching a good crime drama. Goodness, it's even way better than a tv show! Honestly, this one is for the keeper shelf and to get read again. Well done!
Cara Putman rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
The Chase is a race filled with twists and complications. It is an engaging read and builds on book one while being enjoyable on its own. The characterization is rich, and the pacing great. It’s fascinating look at what the US marshals do.
Paula Shreckhise rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 5 out of 5 Stars
“Run the race that the Good Lord set out for you to run”
In this second book of the series, U S Marshal partners, Madison and Jonas are on the trail of four fugitives from a bank robbery gone wrong. What a way to start the first day back from an injury for Madison James.
The culprits manage to keep one step ahead of the Marshals in a desperate cat and mouse game and nail biting chase.
The author gives us another glimpse into the relationship between Madison and Jonas that started in The Escape. They are their for each other every step of the way. But could this turn into something more?
The excitement ramps up as they figure out where the fugitives are, but they are not sure all the clues are related to the present case. Could someone still be after Madison as she tries to uncover clues to her husband’s murder five years ago?
As one story concludes, we will have to wait for other answers to be revealed in the third book of the series.
Well plotted and thrilling, this book is a great story to get absorbed in.
Deanne Patterson rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
The second book in the US Marshals series is fast paced and hits the floor running.
We engage with many of the same characters as we met in the first book so we are familiar with them making for a very easy to follow but exciting story line.
This is only my second read by this author after reading the first in the series the 2020 release, The Escape. It was action packed and I really enjoyed it and was looking forward to this one and I was not disappointed.
Well done, one for the read again shelf. I am looking forward to the next one by this author in this captivating series.
Amanda Geaney rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 5 out of 5 Stars
Lisa Harris is my go-to author when I'm in the mood for fast-paced action and a slow-burn romance!
After finishing The Escape, I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next with Madison and Jonas. The Chase (US Marshals Book #2) picks up their story three months later as Madison is preparing to return to regular duty. Of course, a normal day in the office wouldn't make for good fiction so Harris plunges her dynamic duo into another big case involving bank robbers. The sense of urgency conveyed in her writing made me feel like I was blasting through the book at breakneck speed. My only reprieve (chance to catch my breath) came when Madison and Jonas would share a private moment. As the story progressed, their shared moments grew in depth and intimacy making me eager for the final installment of the series. Will they have their happily ever after or will the person(s) hunting Madison prevent that from happening?
Abigail Harris rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
There was no chance to catch my breath while I was reading "The Chase" by Lisa Harris!
I fell in love with Harris' US Marshals series when I read "The Escape" and fell in love with Madison's and Jonas' story and seeing US Marshals since I've read so many suspense books with other agencies and not so many with about the Marshals.
One of the plot lines is quite like one of my favorite mystery movies which makes me adore this book even more. There were things that I wished didn't happen and I also was really sad at some of the twists but this book left me eager for the next one!
Amanda Tero rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
This book has a good mix of suspense, action, excitement, faith, romance, and reality. It picks up at a comfortable pace from book one and after a slow first chapter, the whole book is full of page-turning excitement that starts with a bank robbery gone wrong.
The faith content comes up at just a few points, but what is discussed about trusting God is spot-on.
The romance simmers a little more in this book from book one, but once again, it is not an intense, heated romance. Rather, two friends who grow closer to each other.
This is more of an adventure to follow along and see how it unfolds rather than solve-the-mystery-yourself, but I still enjoyed it.
Vera Godley rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
I missed reading the first in this US Marshals series, The Escape; but reading book #2, The Chase, is a good stand alone book. It is however, one of those somewhat unique series where each book leaves a cliff hanger ending that ties it to the next. In this case .....small spoiler alert..... the sweet, slow romance, doesn't have a happily ever after ending but a "maybe someday" ending.
But the meat of the book isn't just a gently building relationship that might someday lead to a romance. No, it is a chase that is packed with fast paced action and the rounding up of bank robbers, murderers, and blackmailers.
A plot that thickens as the chase ensures.
Set in the Pacific Northwest in the Seattle area, the reader gets cloying glimpses of the magnificent views of mountains and ocean. Makes one long for a road trip to the area.
A good clean book laced with Christian morals.
Toni Shiloh rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
This is the second book in the series and I didn't read the first not knowing it continued from book one. If I had realized that, I would have read book one for better frame of reference on the characters.
The suspense thread is standalone because it's a new case but I felt like the romance picked up from book one and may even carry into book 3. For that reason, I'd recommend you read the series in order.
All in all, I liked it. The suspense was great and kept me invested to see how it goes.
Linda Klager rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
This book is the second in the US Marshals Series and I am happy to now say that I have read books 1 and 2.
The title of the book is so accurate. Throughout the book, there was a big chase for the culprits of the crime that was committed.
US Marshal Madison James is recovering from someone shooting her in her home. I can't imagine anything worse. How would you feel safe again? She has a partner by the name of Jonas Quinn that helps her recover. They form a strong bond.
When Madison comes back to work, things begin to spiral out of control. There was a bank robbery and a security guard is mortally wounded. The hunt begins. These crooks plan a lot of heists and love the adrenaline thrill of "getting away" with a crime.
We also find out that Madison's husband was killed in the parking lot after one of his shifts at the hospital five years ago. Madison has tried to find his killer and also whoever was responsible for shooting her. It is a shame that both of these mysteries have not been solved. Madison is wondering if the two crimes are connected.
Jonas is falling in love with Madison. Madison is afraid that she will put her partner in danger if she lets herself fall in love with Jonas.
I was a bit disappointed in the ending of this story, but all in all, I thought the author did an excellent job with all the action, suspense, and romance in this book. Because of all that was involved, I finished this book very quickly. because it really held my interest.
Connie Saunders rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 5 out of 5 Stars
Are you looking for a thrilling suspense novel with light romance and strong human alliances? Do you appreciate a faith message woven into the storyline? ? This, then, is the book for you! Author Lisa Harris has written a story with everything needed for a good suspense novel: non-stop action, questions needing to be answered, clues that are sometimes misleading, and intense danger. There's also a chance to dig deeper into the thoughts and motives of the two main characters. Harris reveals their strengths and weaknesses, she offers a glimpse of their deepening feelings for each other, and she allows their faith and beliefs to be a part of the plot. I first met Madison and Jonas in The Escape, and I'm so glad that I could witness their personal relationship develop in this book.
'For now, she was going to have to take her own advice, pray and let God do the rest. Which wasn't easy for someone used to diving in and finding the solution on her own.'
I recommend The Chase to all who enjoy romantic Christian suspense.
Toni Osborne rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
This second installment centers on a series of bank robberies and the hunt to catch the suspects. U.S marshal Madison James and her partner Jonas Quinn are assigned to the case. They have little leads to go on with but in no time they pick up the bank rubbers’ trail. As they pursue them from one hostage situation to another they pull us into never ending suspense and a thrilling read.
If you like soft mystery said in a clean language with a bit of romance without crazy sex scenes Revell is your publisher to look for. I like reading the author they take care of and Ms. Harris is at the top of their list. She is one with a pen that provides an exciting story in a moderate pacing and plots that are easy to follow.
Although bank heists are subjects often seen in books and in movies nothing really original there but what make this story different if how the author drives the narrative by giving us a chase where the protagonists not only face immediate danger and dramatic events but melts into the suspense a sweet side where they struggle with their inner selves.
Marj Ward rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 5 out of 5 Stars
Book 2 in the US Marshal series. Madison James and Jonas Quinn whom we met in The Escape are chasing 4 bank robbers. Madison is not totally healed from being shot a few months before or her husband’s unsolved murder, but wants to get back to work. Jonas and Madison are both wonderful characters and I loved how their relationship is evolving. Read book #1 first for valuable background. Can we please have book 3 now?
Ebos Aifuobhokhan rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 4 out of 5 Stars
Trusting God even when it does not make sense.
Intrigue, suspense, mystery, thrilling action and romance tied up in a nice bow. That was this book. It was beautiful to read how the character's faith came to play in their job as law enforcement. I admired the camaraderie between Maddison and Jonas.
Thrilling and inspiring book.
Jennifer Robb rated The Chase – US Marshal # 2 a 3 out of 5 Stars
I have read this author before though I don't know if I read the first book in the series. The title sounds familiar but I don't remember the characters.
I disagree with some of the other reviewers. I didn't find this to be non-stop action and I didn't find it to be so compelling that I couldn't put it down. But it was a good story and it got more interesting about halfway through. Though I was disappointed that several of the scenes seem to be of the type common to this genre. Perhaps I've just read the genre too much lately, but I'm tired of it taking a life-and-death situation in order to admit that you love someone. And the life-or-death situation usually happens to the woman with the man having to save her.
I do like that the author didn't feel compelled to have the characters married by the end of the book. And it appears that they've known each other for several years, which is an improvement over the usual "we just met each other and in a few months we're engaged or married" that is common to the genre.
