By Christy Liesemer Director, HMI Christian Hockey Camps

As HMI's 40th camp season drew to a close - I thought about the common concerns on the hearts of campers that we encountered this summer. As I participated at camps in North America and Europe, I noted that campers everywhere were looking for answers to their questions about life, peace in their hearts and an anchor for the uncertain future.

At each location, the camp staff had the opportunity to convey to the players that there's "something more" to life.....that there's "SOMEONE more".

Through small group Bible studies and discussions, instructor testimonies and chapel times, we shared the powerful truth that Jesus surpasses life’s questions, He is the Prince of Peace and He controls the future. He is so much More than anything the world has to offer. It was amazing to watch young players eagerly respond and accept the life-changing message!

Our staff member Joe Smith shared the following experience from the Kingston camp:
“After chapel one night a 16 year old said: "I've been going to Church for my whole life and I've never heard this before (the Gospel). I just think of some of the things I've done in my life and then hearing the message you guys share... It just seems too simple." This boy was struggling to comprehend that God could step in and pay his penalty, which he recognized was a big one. I was excited to explain to him that the "simplicity" he was talking about was what made the Christian message so beautiful and unique. You could never work hard enough or be good enough to get into heaven without Jesus' sacrifice. We talked for a long time and he responded to the call God had put on his heart, and prayed to receive that beautiful "simple" gift.”

The pace is picking up: closed doors have opened, Christian players are bolder and unashamed, the message is more urgent and the race is more intense. As the ministry continues, we expect that something greater is still to come, and that even greater numbers of hockey players, their families and fans will come to faith in the days ahead ... and of course we know that someday there’s SOMEONE greater coming ...and we are watching for Him!

We are so thankful for your prayers and ‑financial help. Please consider a gift to support the ongoing work of Hockey Ministries International.
