Christian Blind Mission (cbm) Canada Working with the World's Most Vulnerable People Announces Strategic Programming Shift

John Kirkby founded Christians Against Poverty in 1996 in response to the tremendous poverty he saw in his home city of Bradford, England. As a Christian, he believed God was calling him to use the skills gained through 17 years' experience in the consumer finance industry to reach out to people suffering under the burden of debt.

Armed with just a few pounds and his faith that God would provide, John set off on an incredible journey. Since then Christians Against Poverty has grown into a large UK charity that has given thousands of people a real answer to debt and hopelessness in the UK, and later also in Australia and New Zealand.

Personal debt is a huge problem in Canada. When you consider the emotional and practical impact of debt on someone's quality of life, the statistics become even more harrowing. Christians Against Poverty believes something can be done and that is why they are about to take this huge step to pioneer their work in Canada.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP), now a registered charity in Canada, is based in Hamilton Ontario and works through a network of church based centres to get alongside the poor and broken to offer hope, friendship and a real way out of poverty and debt through our top quality debt counselling service.

Equipping Churches

CAP partners with churches to help reach vulnerable people in the community with practical help and the love of Jesus. This is accomplished through the CAP Money Courses and Debt Centres.

CAP Money

This is a great first step for churches to get involved and offer practical tools to help people get their finances under control. It costs $75 per volunteer trained and then the church can run the course for free with no limit to the times the course is run.

The CAP Money Course will give people in your church and community the tools to get their finances under control at a time when many are feeling the pinch. Jesus taught so much about money because it affects every area of life and if it is out of control, it has the power to destroy lives. The CAP Money Course empowers people to give and save more as well as preventing the destructive effects of unmanageable debt.

This year, Christians Against Poverty will be hosting Train the Trainer Regional Training Days throughout the province. In this area Forest City Destiny Church located at 6-120 Falcon St in London will be hosting one of these Training Days on April 12th.
