By Mission Services of London

As we roll through August, and the dog days of summer begin to cool down, the preparations for sending kids of all ages back to school begin to heat up. Parents delve into what can be an endless list of school tools, footwear, clothes, lunch kits and more. This endless list can be costly for those on a budget, or those struggling with homelessness and poverty.

Last year alone, almost 500 children stayed at Rotholme Women’s & Family Shelter. The London Food Bank reports that children and youth make up 38% of those using their services. For these kids, and many more in our community, it can be impossible to gather a simple backpack or a fresh, new box of crayons.

Mission Services of London is calling on our community to reach out to those children who are struggling with homelessness and poverty.

We're asking families and individuals to donate backpacks, lunch kits, school tools, and other items which are so necessary for children wanting a fresh start.

Donations can be dropped off at Mission Services of London's Head Office, Rotholme Women's & Family Shelter or at both 103.1 Fresh FM and 103.9 More FM Summer Cruiser locations.

Let's help all children in London go Back to School in Style.

Rotholme Women's & Family Shelter is a branch of Mission Services of London that has been providing safe housing and support to two parent and single parent families. This 41 bed facility accommodates families who are homeless and in need of temporary emergency accommodation or are in crisis and require emergency shelter and care. Caseworkers and family care workers provide crisis support and assist clients in re-entering the community.
