Gord and Ruth Park have returned from south Texas again this spring with stories of their Bible Distribution project and hope and prayers about doing it again next year. This year they distributed 4,000 Bibles to Christian leaders on both sides of the Texas, Mexico border. They work through Christian organizations like churches, soup kitchens and missions who work with the many disadvantaged people trying to cross into Texas.

The Bibles are supplied by the Canadian Bible Society and shipped to Houston. There is a trucker there who takes them to South Texas at no cost. He also hauls beans and rice that are donated by people the Parks' have met over the years. The rice comes from Arkansas and the beans come from Hensel co-op in Ontario. Both the rice and beans are put in 4 pound bags for distribution to needy people. Another interesting contact is a church in Lebanon, Ohio whose ministry is providing tracts in bulk for various mission projects. They donate 20,000 tracts in Spanish to go in the Bibles.

Ruth and Gord have met many people and actually have a network now of many originations who want Bibles as well as food. These contacts are the leaders in the various missions in the area. As each leader talks to his friends, there is another need that shows up. One of the contacts asked for 750 Bibles this year to give to the people in the military. And he wants 4,000 for next year! That is on top of the other missions that have asked—making for a total need of 8,000 by next fall.

The funds for this ministry have grown just like the need for the Bibles. It started about 3 or 4 years ago with the Parks sending a few emails to friends who might sponsor a case of 24 Bibles for $48.00. Planning for the fall starts in the spring and the plan is to order the Bibles in Spanish by July to have them to Texas in time for October. This year, to fill the requests, 334 cases of Bibles are needed at a cost of $16,000.

The money for this huge project is handled by Brigden Community Church and the Parks are responsible to both the church and Revenue Canada to account for the money. Please pray about this opportunity and if God leads you to participate in this project, send a contribution to Gord and Ruth Park 885 St. Clair Pkwy, Mooretown, ON N0N 1M0. Please make the cheques out to the following name: Brigden Community Church — re: Bibles for Mexico.
