An invitation arrives neatly in the mail,
Stiff. Crisp. Special

Date set. Location described. Love announced.
Set aside. Important.
R.S.V.P in fancy swirls.
Will you come?

You sigh…
Somewhere deep inside your "being", something stirs…ever so slightly.
Forgotten. Thin.
What is it about a wedding?

Announcement pinned.
Shyly lifting its' eyes to meet yours every so often.
Stir…stir…
You look away,
Trying to remember.

Dress bought. Pants pressed.
Extra care is taken out, dusted off and used today.

Your eyes meet you in the mirror.
Hopeful. Wishing. Searching.
Stir…stir…stir…
What is it about a wedding?

Backs are straightened.
Shoes shined. Footsteps refined.
Like we've been practicing for this day…
With books on our heads, shoulders back.

Smiles flash, holding their tongues.
Letting hope sing today.
Allowing dreams to mingle with the scent of the flowers.
You breathe it in. Fresh, yet familiar.
Stir.
What is it about a wedding?
Notes and voices blend, releasing their magic.
Patience gets stretched, as she always does while waiting.
Excitement arrives with a vision in white,
Glimpsed through the trees.

Breath is held. Eyes are turned.
Heartbeats align.
Love takes us by the arm and we stand.
The vision smiles.
So do we.
Stir…stir…

We whisper her beauty to each other
As if to be sure we are not in a dream.
What is it about a wedding?

He waits. Farthest away from her.
More hopeful than we.
Eyes transfixed.
He sees no one else.

We've almost forgotten him.
She hasn't.
He fills her dreams. Her waking moments.
He pours hope into her future.
Forgiveness into her past.
Presses love into every corner of her heart.

Stir. Stir. Stir.

Their eyes meet.
Unspoken words shout silently across the grass.
Unspoken words we all hear:
Here I am!
Here we are!
I love you!

We shout silently back:
All the best!
Good luck!
Be patient!

Stir.

As promises vow and signatures sign,
Our hands find each other.
Stir.
Our bodies lean in familiar, on walls of strength.
Stir.

He and She now become Us.
Joining ranks with our teams.
Fighting to survive.
Fighting extinction of The Married.
Stir.

Shoulders relax. Lips move.
Hands clap.
Young are released.
Old are hungry and hot.
All are happier.
What is it about a wedding?

Food served.
Speeches spoken.
Laughter and tears replace each other.
Hugs and toasts.
Raise a glass.

Love is our guest of honor.
Hope is the best man.

Let's dance!

What? Live.

Is it? Laugh.

About? Love.

A Wedding? Hope.
